Sheep to Shawl at the Skamania County Fair – August 16, 2025
Visitors at the Skamania County Fair got to watch our guild bring the age-old tradition of “Sheep to Shawl” to life. Before the fair, we prepared the loom with a handspun warp from a CVM/Rommeldale. The weft was spun from washed California Red fleece.
Fairgoers watched as the fleece transformed—first into batts, then yarn, then fabric—and finally, after much spinning, weaving, and teamwork, into a finished shawl. On the loom it stretched to 104" x 21", but after its final wet finishing, it settled into a soft and wearable beautiful shawl measuring 86" x 19".
